Local Food and Farmers Market Intern
Our mission statement: At the Center for an Agricultural Economy, we take care of each other and the land. We support rural communities and working landscapes by building a more interconnected local food system.
We cultivate community by organizing and collaborating with farmers, food producers and neighbors. We strengthen the agricultural economy by providing farm & food business resources, access to capital, shared infrastructure, and dynamic social enterprises.
Our care is expressed through places, programs, projects, and partnerships that ensure our rural food system is supported, our farms are thriving, and everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
This internship will be in collaboration with the Hardwick Farmers Market, which is an important component of CAE's work. We are looking for someone who is excited about local food & farms, can work closely with a diversity of people and has specific skills to help increase the impact & reach of the farmers market. This position will include working closely with the HFM manager, other CAE staff, our board of directors & also the strategic planning team. We envision this work being accomplished primarily by maintaining our new website, helping to build & create content for our social media channels, and being present at all farmers markets throughout the course of the internship to help with various tasks, projects, and data collection efforts.

The position includes participation in a week-long community orientation along with other UVM interns placed in partner organizations and weekly intern cohort workshops for professional development, networking, and reflection and a final sharing event in mid-August.
Housing: Free housing is provided in a shared residence at Sterling College in nearby Craftsbury, VT.
Travel: As travel is required between the provided housing and ‘on site’ job requirements, applicants should have access to their own reliable transportation for the duration of the internship.

Mental Demands: This position requires the ability to multi-task and work on more than one project at a time. It is best suited for someone who is able to transition from indoor/computer work to outdoor/physical work in the same day. Lastly, the most appropriate candidate for this position is comfortable working with a wide range of people and engaging in conversations with new members of the community on a regular basis.
